The switchboard operator is responsible for managing a
company's switchboard phone system. They receive incoming calls and are sent to
different departments as required. The switchboard operator may be responsible
for answering questions from the audience. Some switchboard operators are
employed in hospitals, in which case they must respond to emergency alarms and
direct information to the relevant parties, as well as investigating hospital
codes. They could be instructed to use a call system as well as a telephone
